DEPTFORD UPDATE

Map installation at the APT Gallery commissionned by David Kohn Architects and Designed for London
Deptford Update is an exhibition
of drawings and models accompanied by a programme of events showcasing emerging public realm projects
in Deptford and North Lewisham. Commissioned by Design for London in partnership with London Borough
of Lewisham, the exhibition included an urban plan for Deptford Creekside, proposals for the Kender Triangle
in New Cross Gate, and a series
of speculative housing proposals
by students from the Accademia di Architettura, Mendrisio, Switzerland.

This wall mural/ drawings installation specially commissioned for the exhibition, presented all of the projects in context. As most of the projcts were proposals, it was important to keep
a feeling of work in progress.
The installation was like a very detailed giant but accurate sketch. The existing sites were drawn directly on the wall with pencils as a basis and the new proposals were drawn on paper with ball pens (a puzzle of about 90 A3 sheets) and reassembled on site so that the new bits matched the existing ones. With its two layers of information,
the map was readable as a whole in which you can still clearly identify the new and existing areas.
